Deposits

The deposit of $75 is a service fee to hold a hedgehog. If we confirm the deposit by email and have removed the hedgehog from the website, we have fulfilled this service. Therefore, the deposit is not refundable. Deposits are NOT transferable to other hedgehogs. 

Applies to all hedgehogs: You will forfeit your deposit if you schedule an appointment to pick up your hedgehog and NO-SHOW. I consider a you a no-show if you do not contact me at least 30 mins prior to your scheduled appointment to let me know you will be late or are not coming.  You will also be considered a no-show if you do not schedule an appointment to pick up your hedgehog within 24 hours of the the take home date. 

Hedgehogs under 7 weeks old: A $75 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a baby Hedgehog for you. The hedgehog must be picked up by their take home date (or the dates offered to you in the pick up schedule that is emailed to you. If you need more time, we will hold babies for up to 7 days if the hedgehog is paid in full.

Hedgehogs older than 7 weeks: A $75 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a baby Hedgehog for you. The Hedgehog must be paid in full and picked up within 2 days from the date of the deposit. If the hedgehog is not picked up within 48 hours, the $75 non-refundable deposit is forfeited. If you need more time, we will hold the hedgehog up to 7 days if the hedgehog has been paid in full.

*Under some circumstances, if your hedgehog is paid in full and you are unable to pick your baby I will board at a fee of $5/day up to 9 weeks of age.

Adult hedgehogs: A $25 deposit is required to hold an adult hedgehog. If you meet the adult and don't feel it is a match, the deposit (minus PayPal fees) will be refunded. An adult hedgehog must be picked up within 48 hours of the deposit. If you can't pick up within 48 hours, you can pay for your hedgehog in full and arrange to board the hedgehog for $5/day for up to 7 days.

Hedgehogs that require shipping: If you require your hedgehog to be shipped to you, it must be paid in full 72 hours before the shipping date. Failure to pay within this timeframe will forfeit your deposit.

Appropriate Habitat

A cage habitat as outlined by our hedgie care page is required. We do sell cage packages, but you are NOT required to buy it from us. However, pictures are required no later than 24 hours before the pick-up date. Failure to send pictures 24 hours prior to your appointment will result in cancellation of your pick-up appointment,  reservation and your deposit forfeited. Hedgehogs will not be sent home if I have not seen your habitat.

All sales on habitats and supplies are final.

No Breeding

At this time, all hedgehogs will be sold as a pet and are not for breeding. If my animals are bred intentionally or by accident or the buyer breeds other hedgehogs at their residence the buyer agrees to pay Rose City Hedgehogs $500.00 for breeding rights. 

Even if you do not intend to breed, I do not sell opposite sex hedgehogs to the same household or households with friends who have opposite sex hedgehogs.

Returns

We will ALWAYS take back our Hedgies. We don't buy back hedgehogs, but we will place them into appropriate homes or keep them as residents. However, if your baby is less than 9 weeks old we will refund 1/2 of the purchase price minus the $75 non-refundable deposit.

If you are no longer able or willing to care for your hedgehog, you are under contract to contact us to surrender the hedgehog back to us.  Breaching this agreement will result in legal action to pay $500 for breeding rights.

All sales are final on hedgehog supplies.

Health Guarantee

All hedgehogs, bred by Rose City Hedgehogs are guaranteed to be free from congenital problems until 6 months of age. If a hedgehog dies before the age of 6 months, the original purchase price will be applied to another hedgehog (when one becomes available). A buyer has 3 months to select their replacement baby. A necropsy report from Oregon State University's Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (or any other veterinary pathologist) stating the nature of the problem was heredity or present at birth is REQUIRED. Please see directions below on obtaining a necropsy from OSU. All veterinary expenses are the responsibility of the pet owner once the hedgehog has been delivered.

There is a Lifetime Guarantee against Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS) on all hedgehogs bred by Rose City Hedgehogs. Should your hedgehog's necropsy prove positive for WHS, the original purchase price will be applied to another hedgehog. At Rose City Hedgehogs we follow the pedigrees of our hedgies very closely and carefully monitor the health of our breeding stock. However, WHS has an unknown etiology -this means the cause of WHS is unknown. Some speculate it is viral and some believe it is genetic. Truth of the matter is that the cause is completely unknown. Without knowing what causes WHS, it is IMPOSSIBLE to guarantee it will not occur in ANY hedgehog from ANY breeder. Therefore, the only way we can protect your investment is to offer a LIFETIME replacement when a necropsy from OSU diagnosis is WHS upon death (please see paragraph below for directions on obtaining a necropsy from OSU). While it is heartbreaking to lose a pet, the risk of WHS might be something to consider before choosing a hedgehog as a pet.

*Should we need to make good on a health guarantee, shipping is not included. The buyer is responsible for the shipping fees on the replacement hedgehog.

Shipping (outside of Oregon)

We do ship hedgies outside of Oregon from June1st to September 30th. Shipping via American airlines is $500 (which includes airline ticket, health certificate, acclimation certificate, licensing fee, delivery fee, crate, and shipping supplies). I pack my hedgies well, but after I hand them off to the airline, shipping is at your own risk.

If you are having a hedgehog shipped to you, the balance on the hedgehog and the shipping fee must be paid within 72 hours of the shipping date. If your invoice is not paid within 72 hours of your shipping date, the deposit is forfeited and the animal will be sold to another person. Absolutely NO exception.

Shipping in Oregon is not available. In Oregon, the pick-up airport for Cargo is in Portland, OR -this is the same place I drop off.

I won't ship to the following locations where Hedgehogs are illegal:

Hawaii
California
Georgia
Pennsylvania
The 5 boroughs of New York City
Windsor, Ontario Langley, British Columbia

What to do if your hedgehog dies

In the event your hedgie dies and you suspect WHS or a genetic anomaly, it is important to get your hedgie prepared and shipped (or driven) to OSU Veterinary diagnostic lab immediately upon death for a proper necropsy.

Step 1: Put your hedgehog in a large Ziploc bag and put in a cool place. DO NOT FREEZE. I take a sharpie and write my name and phone number on the ziploc.

Step 2: Line a small box with puppy training pads. Use one puppy training pad to wrap the ice pack. The absorbable side should be directly on the ice pack to absorb the condensation. 

Step 3: Place your hedgehog on top of the wrapped ice pack. Cover with a few more training pads and fold like a burrito. I secure with packing tape and place in the priority mail box. Add packing material as necessary to avoid shifting in the box.

Step 4: On the OSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory website http://vetmed.oregonstate.edu/diagnostic/forms you will need to Print and fill out three forms:

• Biopsy/Necropsy submission form
• New client form
• VDL Disclaimer
• OSU Revolving Charge agreement

On the biopsy/necropsy submission form, please make sure you mark

"Necropsy & Diagnostic Work up"

After you fill out the forms, please put them in a Ziploc bag and put inside the box.

Step 5: Seal up the box and send via priority mail (overnight mail if you are not in Oregon) to the shipping address on the top of the necropsy submission form. OSU will email the results to you in about a week. Please forward the PDF file to Rose City Hedgehogs.
